Dimensions of health
Today, I want to explore the concept of health not just as a term we've all used or heard but as a multi-dimensional truth that connects our body, mind, and spirit in profound harmony.
Health is more than merely avoiding illness; it’s a vibrant state of being where all aspects of us work together seamlessly. You see, health—just like disease—has an energy of its own. When we focus on cultivating it fully, it radiates outward.
The Three Dimensions of Health
When striving for true health, we must look at its three dimensions:
1. The Physical (Body)
Our body is the tangible vessel through which we experience life. It’s a structure made of matter, working intricately to enable expression.
2. The Mental (Mind)
The mind is our processor, shaping our perceptions, guiding our thoughts (both conscious and subconscious), and determining how we interact with the world around us.
3. The Spiritual (Spirit)
The spirit is the life force within us—the vital energy that powers all we do. Like electricity to a machine, the spirit animates our being and is, at its core, who we are.
These dimensions are inseparably linked, and when they’re in harmony, health becomes a natural expression of who we are. Imagine each of these dimensions as strands in a weave. When woven together seamlessly, they form a state of vitality.
Health as Flow and Alignment
Health is more than the absence of "dis-ease." It is the free-flowing expression of life through our existence. Think of it as the radiance of a light bulb powered by energy; when there’s resistance in the system, that light dims.
“Dis-ease” occurs when there’s a disruption in this natural flow. Nurturing health means aligning ourselves with the natural laws that govern the wellbeing of the body, mind, and spirit. Dr. Fleet, in his book Rays of the Dawn, summarized this beautifully by explaining the laws of health and disease—so we can better understand what strengthens us and what depletes us.
The Root of Health
Holistic health, derived from the Greek word holos meaning "whole," reminds us that health comes from fully tending to all aspects of ourselves. When we care for our bodies, expand our minds, and nurture our spirits, we open the door to a more powerful and authentic expression of ourselves.
Here’s the key, though—health isn’t something that comes to you. It comes from you. Health originates within. The ancient Greeks knew this well and inscribed "Know Thyself" on Delphi’s Temple of Apollo as a reminder. True health begins with self-awareness—listening to this life-giving force we call spirit—and aligning ourselves with its flow through lawful living.
Even beyond self-awareness, the role of a healthcare provider takes on a richer meaning. Their true duty is not merely to heal but to teach the laws of life and empower every individual to express their unique potential for health. The word "doctor" itself means teacher, after all.
A Thought to Expand Upon
By just thinking about what true health means and contemplating this alignment, you’ve already taken a step forward. Thought is the beginning of expansion, and from that expansion comes greater health. Your body shines brighter, your mind becomes sharper, and your spirit thrives.
I encourage you to nurture this flow—embrace what strengthens your body, uplifts your mind, and frees your spirit.
